The Generation 2 version of this professional transmitter comes with an impressive range of features. This includes the Spektrum AirWare software with a broad range of programming features (by registering the DX18, you will receive an alert when a new versions of AirWare are available). Spektrum's intuitive SimpleScroll interface also makes menu navigation and setting changes as simple as "roll and click". The DX18 comes with programmable voice alerts, allowing you to keep a tab on important functions without having to take your eyes off your flying. These alerts can be programmed to call out the flight mode you have chosen or report telemetry information on demand. If an alarm goes off, you will not have to look at the transmitter's display to see what is happening - the DX18 will tell you. In addition to the transmitter's plane and helicopter programming, the DX18 has impressive sailplane programming features, such as ten available flight modes, five wing types, three tail types, two motor types and flap delay with elevator compensation. You can even adjust individual servo characteristics (such as end points, travel and centre) for all 18 channels. The DX18 is equipped with a built-in sequencer, allowing you to program a sequence of switch-activated events with time delays between each event. For example, with the flip of the gear switch, you can have an auxiliary channel open landing gear doors, then have the retract channel lower the landing gear and finally have the auxiliary channel close the gear doors after the gear is extended. The Spektrum DX18 comes with a built-in servo balancer, allowing you to precisely balance the output of CCPM swash servos or multiple servos on a single control surface using a 7-point curve mix. Furthermore, this transmitter comes with a wireless trainer link, which gives instructors the option to wirelessly "buddy box" with another DSM2/DSMX transmitter. Once bound to another transmitter, the ModelMatch technology will allow the DX18 to re-link without having to go through another bind process. This RC radio comes with a huge 250 model memory. You will find that navigating through this model memory is quite easy, as only the memory slots with model settings saved to them will appear. You will not have to scroll through empty slots or move models around if one is deleted. Spektrum have ensured that both the DX18 transmitter and its receiver are X-Plus capable, so you can add up to eight extra channels with an X-Plus channel expansion module. All you have to do is plug the module into the receiver, bind it and then assign the extra 8 channels to any function you need. With the DX18's built-in telemetry, you will receive real-time information such as your model's battery voltage, signal quality, engine or motor temperature, airspeed, altitude and more. The transmitter can recite this information on demand using the programmable voice alerts. You can also log the telemetry data to the transmitter's SD card to review after the flight. Please note that a Spektrum TM1000 or a TM1100 Air Telemetry Module (both sold separately) and a telemetry-capable receiver will be required for this functionality. You will find, though, that there is a wide array of Spektrum telemetry sensors available for tracking just about any model function you can think of, with new ones being added all the time. Ergonomically, you will find the Spektrum DX18 has a great weight distribution and has been optimised to fit the way you fly. For example, the transmitter comes with comfortable, no-slip rubber grips, the ability to adjust the stick length and tension and smooth, quad-bearing gimbals. The mode configurations (1, 2, 3 or 4) are adjustable and the switch functions are also user-assigned. The backlit screen is easy to read and the SimpleScroll programming interface makes operation intuitive. For the professional pilot, there is nothing better - the new Spektrum DX18 is a masterpiece.
